I help founders turn early ambition into a brand, a website, and a product.

I’m Julien Perrière, an independent brand and product designer based in La Rochelle, France.

I came to design through a love of entrepreneurship. Design is how I contribute to the companies and ideas I want to see succeed. My starting point is understanding what the business needs to achieve, then figuring out how design can help move it forward.

Since summer 2022, I’ve worked independently through Flexboom, exclusively with pre-seed and seed-stage teams.

If you’re building something, I’d love to hear where you are and what you have in mind. Book a call or send me an email, and let’s see how I can help. You can also find me on LinkedIn.

My journey

  1. Flexboom, year 4: “Wait, I love this life.”

  2. Flexboom, year 3: “Alive. And well?”

  3. Flexboom, year 2: “Still alive.”

  4. Moved to La Rochelle, France.

  5. “With AI, everything is new (and fun!) again.”

I decided to use AI to go deeper in my design practice, explore more, and make things I couldn’t before. It felt like becoming a designer all over again.

  6. “AI is going to replace me.”

I spent a week questioning my future as a designer.

  7. Flexboom, year 1: “This sh*t is brutal.”

  8. Used ChatGPT for the first time.

  9. Started Flexboom, my independent design practice.

After helping Ornikar scale and building its design team, I wanted to get my hands dirty again. I started Flexboom to get back to designing, working directly with early-stage founders.

  10. Ornikar raised €100M in Series C funding.

  11. Became VP of Design at Ornikar.

I led brand and product design, helping designers grow and shaping how the team worked.

Nearly five years at Ornikar, from Founding Designer to leading design through Series A, B, and C.

  12. Became Head of Design at Ornikar.

I started hiring and building a team across product design, brand design, and user research.

  13. Ornikar raised €35M in Series B funding.

  14. Ornikar raised €10M in Series A funding.

  15. Joined Ornikar as Founding Designer.

I joined after the seed round to work across product and brand. Over almost five years, my role grew from hands-on design to building and leading the team.

  16. Graduated from HETIC.

  17. Became Creative Director at Digimind.

I joined as the first designer, bringing product design and a complete rebrand to the company. I worked with teams across offices on four continents.

  18. Interned at Source in Paris.

  19. Interned at Firstborn in New York.

  20. Interned at Fantasy in San Francisco.

  21. Interned at MFG Labs in Paris.

  22. “Maybe I could do this for a living.”

After a year and a half at Sciences Po Strasbourg, I chose to pursue my passion for design. I joined HETIC that September.

  23. Started Readr, a social network for readers.

  24. Started Seeqio, a student job board.

Building a project of my own helped me see what I wanted to do next.

  25. Watched The Social Network.

It clicked: making things on the internet could become both a career and a business. I fell in love with the idea of building a product and starting a company.

  26. Started building my own websites with HTML, JavaScript, and PHP.

  27. Discovered The Million Dollar Homepage.

Alex Tew sold pixels for a dollar each to fund his studies. The idea was simple; the execution made it travel. It showed me how far a project on the internet could reach.

  28. Discovered graphic design through Flash.

  29. Learned CSS to customize online forums.

  30. Spent hours customizing my Skyblogs.

  31. Got our first family computer.

  32. Born near Paris.
